Australian Satellite Services, with its wide range
of satellite communications products, has the right
product for the marine environment. We can provide
totally portable satellite phones, which can operate
up to 200 nautical miles off the shore.
Alternatively we can supply satellite phones, which
have a much longer range of operation, practically
worldwide.
We
have supplied satellite phones to participants in
yacht races such as the Melbourne to Hobart and the
Trans Tasman Challenge. ComputerLand, the eventual
winner of a Melbourne to Hobart race skippered by
John Saul was the chosen yacht to be fitted with satellite
phone. This yacht and Jarkan (the winner and record
breaker of the 1998 Trans Tasman Challenge, skippered
by "Kanga" Birtles, were both sponsored
by Australian Satellite Services.
Currently satellite phones form a standard component
of communication fitouts for racing yachts, as this
is the only solution available on the high seas. We
can also provide the necessary GPS tracking and monitoring
devices for marine applications.
